This is an essential work by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, in which he abridged Tahdhib al-Kamal by al-Mizzi. Ibn Hajar focused on retaining what is most useful—specifically, the biographical details of narrators found in the six major Hadith collections—while omitting the lengthy hadith chains and detailed isnads present in the original.
As such, this book stands as one of the most important references for understanding the narrators of the six canonical hadith books: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami’ at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa’i, and Sunan Ibn Majah. For those studying hadith sciences, this work is often considered sufficient for gaining insight into the authenticity and evaluation of narrators across these collections.
Although Ibn Hajar also produced a further abridgment titled Taqrib at-Tahdhib.
